Summary: The present study aimed to evaluate the shavings for use in microenvironment of hamsters. To achieve the objectives of the study was necessary to analyze the quality of existing products on the market and their marketing and your sales potential, being necessary the use of laboratory tests, in which were analyzed the characteristics the physical existence of pathogens organisms that were recognized at the level of genus, being found in the shavings. In possession of these data were carried out tests on laboratory level with use of hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus), in which they were evaluated the tolerance of color and aroma. Anomaly occurred for the experiment of aroma. The test of preference of color, these procedures were performed in the Vivarium of the Center for Agricultural Sciences and Engineering (CCAE) of the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), from the authorization of the Commission of Ethics in the Use of Animals (CEUA), the results were evaluated and used for changing the product and even tested on trade to be known to your acceptance. It was concluded that the coloration of the shavings didn't cause problems for animals, observed by the normal feed and water consumption and handling of the product by animals, as well as by the formation of small groups, in every color, at a given moment (video monitoring). There was good evaluation of colored shavings in Commerce evaluated. The analysis of the production and marketing of the product has proven profitable venture, when you practice the price adopted for the product with the features available on the market.
